Air sealing the ceiling

Last week we were able to make progress on a number or fronts. One was foaming the intersection of the walls and ceiling from the attic side. As you can see in the photos above, only the areas that might leak air were foamed, including plumbing vent pipes and electrical boxes for lighting and smoke detectors.

We’re getting very close to being ready for our first blower door test.

Do you remember Richard Diamond, who was at the GSD for a bit? http://epb.lbl.gov/homepages/Rick_Diamond/index.html He used to talk about blower door tests.

    Hello Larry.

This info may be too late for your project, but it might help others.

In the August/Sept. 2011 issue of Fine Homebuilding magazine there is an article about DYI small home-sized spray foam kits. On pages 40 to 43 of Issue # 221, this article compares several products and discusses issues related to spray foam kits.

    Take care.

    Jim
